Salt Money and Power - Hotline Documentary on Joy News (12-7-21)

The Songhor lagoon in the Greater Accra regional town of Ada, Ghana’s richest salt mining site, has been handed to a company called Electrochem Ghana Limited. The deal, ratified by parliament, gives monopoly of a lagoon in which people of Ada have mined salt for centuries, to one firm. The company has promised to provide jobs and bring much-needed development to the area. But would this be enough to end years of violence and corruption that has surrounded the lagoon’s management? JoyNews’ Justice Baidoo sought to find out in this documentary
